I get a screen saying "explore the Carpathian garden" then an error window saying "It seems you've reached the end of the Internet.....". It appears the app thinks I have no internet connection, which clearly I have. It worked before.

It is a good start.
Why doesn't this have runtime permissions? It's 2017. Also, why does it use the same design as on iOS? You need to understand that each platform has its own design language and frankly, this isn't it. Have a look at the Material Design guidelines and rewrite this embarrassment. It doesn't reflect the IT talent that Romania provides.
